Better the world one small change at a time!

Why cloth diaper?
Environment: Imagine that EVERY SINGLE disposable diaper ever used is STILL in the landfill. Nobody knows for sure how long it takes for them to decompose, but it is estimated to be between 250 and 500 years. Since the time disposable diapers came into existence, tons and tons of diaper garbage were deposited in the landfill. An average baby uses 8000 diapers, and about 80% of US parents use disposable diapers, creating a lot of very slowly decomposing waste for future generations to deal with.
If you choose to cloth diaper, you will need an average of 24 diapers that could also last through several kids, saving the planet one diaper change at a time!
Health: Disposable diapers contain sodium polyacrylate, a type of super absorbent polymer (SAP), which becomes a gel-like substance when wet. A similar substance had been used in super-absorbency tampons until the early 1980s when it was revealed that the material increased the risk of toxic shock syndrome by increasing absorbency and improving the environment for the growth of toxin-producing bacteria. Disposable diapers contain Tributyl-tin (TBT) - a toxic pollutant known to cause hormonal problems in humans and animals. By using cloth diapers you will avoid putting such dangerous chemicals so close to delicate skin of your baby.
Savings: The average diapering costs for parents who use disposable diapers are $2000-2500. If you choose to cloth diaper, your total diaper costs will be about $450 + cost of utilities to wash them for about 30 months ($36 to $122 depending on your area and appliances). Also, if you choose to re-use the same diapers on your other kids, the cost savings are even more attractive! If you choose a more economical option, such as EARTHLING COVERS, you will save even more, because you will need less diaper shells, which also means LESS LAUNDRY!
What is the correct way to put on a cloth diaper?
The diaper should fit like underwear and no chunky leg rolls should be in the diaper. If you pinch the middle of the front part while you put the diaper on, you will achieve the best fit and prevent leaks out of the legs. Please watch this YouTube video for a visual tutorial.
How should I care for my cloth diapers?
The washing instructions are included with every diaper, please see the label. Do not wash in water hotter than 95 degrees Farenheit/35 degrees Celsius. For best results hang shells to line-dry and use the dryer to dry inserts. Do not use bleach or fabric softeners (you can use sun rays to sanitize or remove stains). If you use a diaper rash cream with zinc, use a barrier liner (flushable or fleece). Do not expose PUL side of the diaper to direct sun.
If you purchased hook and loop version of the diapers, make sure to always use laundry tabs to prevent snags and diaper chains in the laundry.
